The Impact Of Diversity On The Workplace - 886 Words

Diversity in the workplace, in terms of gender, race, and other factors, is helpful, necessary, and even profitable, as shown by the four, black female engineers who accepted an award for the tech company Slack for TechCrunch’s â€Å"fastest rising startup.† No person’s physical identity should affect whether they get hired or not by an organization or business. In terms of getting hired, a person’s gender or race should not matter, as long as he or she has the right skills and tools for the job. In terms of running a company and hiring a position of power, however, I do not believe that diversity should be the main hiring factor. I believe the most qualified individual should get the job, regardless to if the company has met its diversity quota. I do believe that organizations and businesses should have quotas to meet in terms of how many women they employ. I think it is important that companies are not discriminatory in their hiring practices due to the gender of the applicant. Qualified applicants should be hired, regardless of if they are male or female. It is disappointing that women, who have the same college degrees, job experiences, work ethics, energy, and enthusiasm as men get paid $0.77 for every $1.00 a man makes, according to LA Times writer Shan Li. Companies should not turn away female applicants too, for the reason of their gender.
